Australian rules is unusual online: the playing gear market is genuinely thin, because most of it is bought in person and sized by feel. The supporter side is where this category actually lives, and it is where the money is.
The useful distinction is between merchandise that says which club he follows and merchandise that says he follows football. The first is a real gift if you have the club right and a dead one if you do not. The second is safe and forgettable. If you are not certain of his club, a ball or something code-level beats guessing.
Nobody plans a gift in advance because nobody remembers the date until it is too late to post anything. We will email you before Father’s Day and before Christmas, with the shortlist already narrowed and the delivery window still open.
