A dad who was a teenager in the 1980s and still defends the mixtape.
What it is
A 569-piece brick-built 1980s cassette player at near 1:1 scale in metallic blue, with two interchangeable tapes, wired headphones and display stands. Pop-open lid mechanism. About 80 minutes to build. Non-functional display model.
Why we picked it
It targets a very specific memory: the exact object he carried around at seventeen, rebuilt as something he can put on a shelf. The 80-minute build is the gift as much as the model, and unlike most nostalgia tat it looks deliberate rather than novelty.
