The dad who can still draw the Falcon’s silhouette from memory on the back of an envelope
What it is
A DIY metal model of the Millennium Falcon built from two laser-etched steel sheets. Pieces pop out and connect by tabs with no glue. Roughly 4 hours to build. The kit is modelled on the ship as it appears in The Force Awakens.
Why we picked it
The Falcon is the ship he first saw in 1977, and assembling it from two etched steel sheets is four hours of absorbing, fiddly work rather than a box to open and put down. Worth knowing before you buy: the kit is modelled on the later Force Awakens version, which most people never notice but a purist might.
