20 gifts for the coffee dad
Ordered by how quickly they arrive, then by price. Never by what earns us the most.
The dad who drinks two or three coffees a day and is ready to stop buying them, and not the once-a-week drinker or anyone allergic to rinsing a portafilter.
The dad who wants cafe coffee at home without learning barista technique and has someone with a milestone budget buying it, and not the hands-on tinkerer, who will find the automation patronising.
The morning routine is not negotiable and it is not really about caffeine. It is ten minutes of a day that belongs to him, and the equipment is the ritual rather than the point. That makes this one of the few categories where an upgrade to something he already does beats introducing something new.
The single highest-impact gift here is a burr grinder, and it is not close. Pre-ground coffee is stale within a fortnight and a blade grinder produces dust and boulders in the same cup, which is why his coffee tastes different from the cafe even with the same beans. If he already grinds, the next step is a scale or a better basket, both of which sound dull and both of which he will notice on the first cup.
