The dad with a car he likes and a screen he does not, who would rather have apps than mirroring
What it is
An Android box that plugs into the factory CarPlay port and puts full apps on the car’s own screen, rather than mirroring a phone. Ottocast list it as drawing USB 5V power from the car.
Why we picked it
This is the one that makes a 2018 car feel closer to a current one, and it is the pick if the gift is meant to be the thing he shows people. Two things to get right, and both are easy to get wrong. It ships as two regional models and you choose at checkout, so pick For Europe/Asia/Australia/Middle East/South America and not the North American one. And Ottocast state on the page that it is not compatible with BMW, so if that is his car, buy him the Play2Video Ultra instead.
