The dad who camps in the cold half of the year, or who wants a fire on a patio where an open one is not allowed. Not the fly-in traveller, because it is heavy and it is steel.
What it is
The larger Ozpig, an Australian-designed portable wood fired stove that works as a cooker and a heater, with a flue, a hotplate top and removable legs. Sold new by an Australian caravan and camping seller.
Why we picked it
The Ozpig is the rare bit of camping gear that people buy once and then plan trips around. The flue is the whole design: it takes the smoke up and away instead of into everyone’s eyes, which is the difference between a fire people sit around and a fire people move away from. It cooks on top, heats the annexe, and packs down into the boot, so one object replaces the fire pit, the stove and the heater.
