What it is

A freestanding LPG patio heater with a lava rock burner, rated at 38.5 MJ/h and a stated coverage area of 17 square metres. It is built from stainless steel with a powdercoated black matte body and has push-button ignition and a heat control knob. Safety features include tip-over and flame-failure gas cut-off sensors.

Why we picked it

Australian outdoor entertaining does not die because of rain, it dies at about 8pm in May when everyone drifts inside. A patio heater is the single most direct fix for that, and 17 square metres of coverage is enough for a table of six rather than one person hogging it. The lava rock burner throws a visible glow, which matters more than the spec sheet suggests, because people cluster around something they can see.
